R/V Melville

Scientific Instrumentation: The R/V Melville has identical twin two-processor Sun 450 servers. There are also Sun workstations and IBM compatible PCs. Magnetic tape media supported includes 4mm DAT and 8mm Exabyte. Hard copy can be sent to laser printers, pen plotters and an E-size HP-755 color InkJET plotter. Data are collected and archived from a Sea Beam 2000 121- beam, 120 degree Bathymetric Mapping System which collects 120 degrees of depth and sidescan data. Data are also collected from a Bell BGM-3 gravity meter; several different GPS receivers including a P-Code receiver and an Ashtech 3DF GPS receiver; RDI Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (150 kHz or 300 kHz); Sippican MK-12 XBT; a sea surface conductivity/temperature sensor and a Knudsen 320B/R sub-bottom profiler. Magnetometer, seismic and hydrographic data are also collected and archived.
